Our Doctrinal Truths
Our church doctrine is prescribed by the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). All policies are grounded in our conviction that the Bible is verbally inspired by God and without error; and therefore, the final authority on all doctrinal matters. Our faith as expressed in the Bible is prescribed in the following documents.
- The three Ecumenical Creeds – The Apostles' Creed, The Nicene Creed, and The Athanasian Creed
- The six Lutheran Confessions – Luther's Small Catechism, Luther's Large Catechism, The Augsburg Confession, The Apology (Defense) of The Augsburg Confession, The Smalcald Articles, and The Formula of Concord
Collectively, the Bible and these documents proclaim the same truth that guides our doctrine. That truth is that we are declared to be right with God by His grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ. Therefore, all doctrinal matters are decided in light of these beliefs.
