Special Prayers

Adding a short special prayer to our daily devotions for a particular topic, issue, or situation of significance is appropriate.  These special prayers will change monthly, so please check back weekly for each week's special prayer.

December 1

Prison Ministry – Lord Jesus, you bring “freedom for the prisoners.” We pray that you would bless the efforts of WELS Prison Ministry to share this good news through letters, biblical resources, and Bible studies. Open the hearts of all who hear your Word to understand our depravity before you, our great need for a Savior, and the wonderful victory you have given us through your death and resurrection. Amen.

December 8

Bluffton, S.C. mission – O Holy Spirit, thank you for the many resources that you have provided in recent years to fund new missions in North America. Continue to encourage Pastor Eric Janke as he works with Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Pooler, Ga., to reach out in nearby Bluffton, S.C. Give our brothers and sisters wisdom in their planning and optimism as they share their faith. Open hearts to welcome the gospel message that Jesus is the risen Savior who has conquered the enemies of sin, death, and hell. Amen.

December 15

Martin Luther College mid-year graduation – Lord Jesus, as Martin Luther College produces another class of mid-year graduates, lead us to see them as precious gifts from you to your church. According to your will, give these workers, who have said, “Here am I send me,” places to serve somewhere in your vineyard. Give them wisdom and eagerness to teach lambs and sheep about you, the Good Shepherd. If your will is that some of them must wait for a call or assignment, give them patience and encouragement that you do all things well for the benefit of your church, which you have purchased with your holy precious blood. Amen.

December 22

Rising Son Ministry Center – Heavenly Father, thank you for the blessings of a team ministry approach for reaching college students in Oshkosh, Wis. For decades you have used the Rising Son Ministry Center to serve thousands of students. Thank you for giving the members of Martin Luther Church a willingness to specifically designate one of their pastors to devote half of his ministry time each week to reaching even more college students in an area that is densely populated with young adults. Bless the efforts of all Christian college students to continue to let the light of their faith shine in an environment where often they can be persecuted. Amen.

December 29

Philippines – Holy Spirit, you are blessing the proclamation of law and gospel in the Philippines so that, in less than two years, we are training local men to be pastors. Encourage and equip Pastor Alvien De Guzman as he teaches two men enrolled in seminary training. Thank you for the technology that permits us to offer other classes to these candidates for ministry. Give students and teachers alike the boldness needed so that all may confess your name clearly to lost souls to grow your kingdom. Amen.

Special Topic Prayers

Heavenly Father, send your holy angels to watch over us today. You have blessed us with another day, and under your fatherly care we look forward to more opportunities to serve you. Keep us safe and help us take a stand for you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Heavenly Father, it’s good to know that one way we show our love to you, is through the work we do for ourselves and for others. We praise you for the blessing of work. We realize, dear Lord, that our sinful nature grows tired of the same old routine, where we sometimes feel overworked, under appreciated, under valued, or overstressed. Yet you remind us in your the Word that we are to be thankful for a job, and that we can ask you to help us use the knowledge and skill you have given us to the best of our ability. Thank you that through work, you allow us to provide for our families and our future. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, you are my one and only Savior. I need the blessings you have set aside for me. Assure me that I am forgiven. Remind me that you promise eternal life in heaven with you. Give me a strong faith that always looks to you for these things. Amen.

Dear Lord Jesus, during your earthly ministry there was no sickness you could not heal and no pain that you could not comfort. Even now it is you who gives comfort and healing to all who suffer. Let your loving hand rest upon all who are sick or injured. Let them know that no matter what problems they face, your power is made perfect in weakness. Ease their pain, calm their fears, and encourage their faith with the promise of your grace. Amen.
