Special Prayers

Adding a short special prayer to our daily devotions for a particular topic, issue, or situation of significance is appropriate.  These special prayers will change monthly, so please check back weekly for each week's special prayer.

December 5

TELL Network – Lord God, we praise you that throughout history you have used different means to grow your Church no matter the resistance put up by Satan or unbelievers. We thank you that the Internet has allowed us to reach people in virtually any country—to train them in your Word and in how to start small groups and congregations. We pray that you continue to bless our online gospel outreach and discipleship efforts in different languages. We praise you for every lost soul that you bring to the joy of knowing you. Amen.

December 12

Martin Luther College – Holy Spirit, we thank and praise you for the gifts you have given to your Church—particularly in the form of this year’s mid-year graduates at Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn. You have equipped these Christians for witnessing. Guide and direct them in all that they do as they serve in your kingdom. Bless their efforts. Give them the words to speak at the proper time and in difficult situations. Grant them boldness and determination as they carry your message of salvation into classrooms and congregations, homes, and hearts across our land and around the world. We pray these things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

December 19

East Asia – Lord, you have commissioned us to preach the gospel to all nations. We praise you for blessing this preaching through our mission work in East Asia. You have opened numerous opportunities to share the good news with those who need to hear it. You have trained workers in these nations who now share this message with their neighbors. You have provided even more potential workers who are preparing for service at Asia Lutheran Seminary. Bless those who are serving and preparing to serve so that your voice is heard through their preaching and souls saved through faith in you. Amen.

December 26

London, England – Heavenly Lord and King, we ask your blessing on the WELS World Missions plan to send a missionary to the city of London, England. We ask that you grant success as we serve 50 WELS families there as well as the many in our fellowship relocating to London from Hong Kong. If it is your will, open this door, smooth the path, and grant that our plans may come to fruition. Help overcome cultural obstacles so that we may serve natives, refugees, and expatriates alike. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Special Topic Prayers

Heavenly Father, as we look around us, you have once again shown us all your blessings. We know that you have provided much more than just our daily needs. We thank you for so generously giving us your Son, our Lord. Through him you have showered us with the blessings of forgiveness, a purpose in life, and eternal life in paradise—no strings attached. For all these blessings, may we truly be thankful, dear Lord. Amen.

Jesus, our one and only Savior, we are not worthy of your love. We are not worthy of your goodness. We are not worthy of your blessings. But forgive our sins, not because we deserve it but because you are a merciful Savior who paid for our sins with your own blood. Shower your grace on us, and keep us safe. Amen.

Heavenly Father, send your holy angels to watch over us today. You have blessed us with another day, and under your fatherly care we look forward to more opportunities to serve you. Keep us safe and help us take a stand for you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God, how can I ever thank you enough for all the blessings you give? This day has again brought proof of your goodness. Trusting in your love, help me show the joy that I have because of what you have done for me. Teach me to love others as you love me. Help me be more patient and alert to the needs of others, and always ready to serve them with the gifts you have given me. In your name I pray. Amen.

Lord Jesus, there is no problem too big or small for you to handle. You handled the problem of my sin when you gave your life for me on the cross. You opened heaven’s door when you rose from the dead. You care about our spiritual problems and about our physical troubles, too. I pray that you would help me find work—meaningful and gainful employment. Help me to use my hands to earn my daily bread. As you take care of the sparrows, also provide for my physical needs. I trust in you for you are my refuge in every time of trouble. Amen.
